Comments:   RE: Clayton E CALL & Susan RICE (Mrs. Susan Appleton)
Your number 11G28, Clayton Eastman CALL, son of Rev. Orlando Boardman Call & Caroline Crandall and his 3d wife, Susie Appleton:

YOUR INFO:
B: August 30, 1848 in New York State.
M1: Jane Armstrong.
M2: Katherine Mullett.
M3: Susie Appleton. (No issue).
D: February 24, 19124 at Lakeview, Michigan.

NEW INFO FROM SUSIE's APPLETON's ONLY GRANDCHILD:
Clayton's 3d wife is my grandmother, but Clayton himself is not related to me. I thank you for revealing Clayton's previous marriages and his death information, as I like to tie up loose ends, even though I am not related to him. You are correct, there was no issue from Clayton and Susie.

You will probably want to note that Susie's maiden name is Susan Mary Damaris RICE; she called herself "Susie" in her diaries, which I have, and she remarked that she liked all three of her first names.

Here is some information on Clayton's 3d wife:
Susan ("Susie") Mary Damaris RICE (her maiden name), born 20 Dec 1872 in Egelston Township, Muskegon County, Michigan to Alanson RICE and Avilda Elizabeth HOOVER; died under the name of Susan Mary Call on 30 Nov 1942 in Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan. She was a public school teacher and also a music teacher in Muskegon.

She married (1) Dr. Egbert Mowat, also known as Dr. Egbert Appleton, 18 Dec 1900 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Susan RICE and Egbert MOWAT/APPLETON had one child, my father. Susie and Dr. Egbert MOWAT/APPLETON then were divorced.

Susan Mary Damaris RICE (Mrs. Susie Appleton) married (2) Clay E CALL 20 April 1910 in Muskegon, Muskegon County, Michigan. He was a Judge and had been previously married twice. The couple was active in the Grange, an organization for the farming community, as evidenced by their names appearing in newspaper articles in the local Muskegon, Michigan newspaper.

Clayton and Susie had a mutually agreeable and respectful divorce--my mother told me that Susan had told her they divorced when Clayton wished to move to a more rural area, and my grandmother, Susan, wanted to remain in Muskegon so that her (only child) son could continue attending a good school. He did have a good education, survived the great depression, and eventually became a lawyer.

His estate, built in the 1830's in Tallahasse, called "The Grove" is on the National Register of Historical Places. It later became the home of another governor (Collins) and his wife Mary Call Collins a descendant of Governor Call.

Richard was named after his Uncle who was a Revolutionary War hero. The family was from Virginia.

I am just beginning the process of filling in the blanks between Richard Call and my great grand mother Minnie Henderson. Whether the story turns out to be true or not, the ride is quite an adventure.

Comments:   Descendent of Thomas Call, who arrived here in 1636. I am entering The Call Family researched by Helen Irene Jones Soper into REUNION. She followed a pretty straight line to our times. There were many children who were not followed up. I believe they are spread all over the country.

Comments:   My main paternal line is Stapp. My great grandfather, William Thomas Stapp married in 1885, at Sidney, Texas, Nena Belle Call, born 10 Dec 1872 in Florence, Grayson Cty, Texas, died 23 Sep 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Her father was John Cornelius Call born 1844 in North Carolina and married to Mary Jane Fly, born 1853 in Missouri, died in 1936 in Romulus, Oklahoma. I have more information on the Flys, who married into the Surgeoners and Oakleys. I am looking for any information on the ancestors of these individuals and families. Further Stapp ancestors married into the Harpers who with the Flys supposedly carry our Native American blood. If I have any information you need, please let me know. Anything you care to share, I would appreciate. Thanks, TC

Comments:   Dear Judy:

I noticed your wonderful web site about the call's with some excitment. I do not know if you could help me, but it never hurts to inquire.

I am seeking information on George William Call, Ca. 1825, Logan County, KY., died May 31, 1862, Seven Pines, Va. His brother was US Senator (Fla.) Wilkinson Call living from 1835-1910. Their father was George Wiliam Call, Sr. also of Logan County, Ky. I am trying to locate the precise date of birth for each man as part of an overall research project into their lives.

If you have any information or could steer me in the right direction, I would be grateful.

Comments:   I have just found out today that my maiden name goes back to the name Call, I have been trying for a couple of year to find my Grandfather, who I believed to be John Grant McCall. To cut a long story short . I found his birth today in 1882, in the name of Call, and he was born in Somerset England and has family in and around London. Would be nice to hear from anyone with contacts in these areas.
