Hollands
The information I have comes from a book titled A Genealogical Record of the Family of William and Charlotte Hollands in the United States by Mary Louise Hollands of Hornell, New York. There are multiple copies among branches of my family but I do not know how many were printed or if they were ever sold. I've included a brief outline on William and Charlotte Hollands below.
There is another Hollands book, by Lucy Hollands Rockwell, referenced in the book. Unfortunatly Mary Hollands didn't include a bibliography page and doesn't cite the exact title of the other book. If anyone has information on this second book, please Judy_Gresko@Hotmail.com.
William Hollands and Charlotte Cruttenden Hollands came to America in 1850 from their home in Lewes, Sussex, England. They brought with them 6 children and had 4 children born in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, where they settled in America.
The children of William and Charlotte Hollands were:
- Frances Hollands, born Sept. 21, 1836 in Lewes, Sussex County, England.
- Charles Hollands, born Oct. 4, 1838 in Lewes, England.
- George Hollands, born Jan. 9, 1841 in Lewes, England.
- Charlotte Hollands, born Apr. 13, 1843 in Lewes, England (died June 13, 1843)
- Mary Ryall Hollands, born Apr. 17, 1844 in Lewes, England.
- William Hollands, born May 3, 1846 in Lewes, England.
- Delia Hollands, born Sept. 6, 1848 in Lewes, England.
- Rachel Hollands, born Sept. 2, 1850 in Mansfield, Pennsylvania
- Louisa Jane Hollands, born Sept. 18, 1853 in Mansfield, Pennsylvania
- Stephen Hollands, born Mar. 31, 1856 in Mansfield, Pennsylvania
- Elizabeth Hollands, born Aug. 30, 1858 in Mansfield, Pennsylvania
Wiliam had a brother, Henry Hollands, b. Sept. 14, 1815 at Lewes, England. He came to the United States with five children and settled in Blossburg, Pennsylvania in 1855. Henry and William's parents were Stephen and Elizabeth Hollands of Lewes, Sussex County, England where Stephen owned a playhouse.
There seems to be a fair amount of "Holland" research going on in the United States. My family uses "Hollands" (with an s on the end) and has stuck mostly to the NJ/NY/PA area of the US as far as I can tell.
To meet other people doing Hollands research, I recommend RootsWeb.com
